I'm sorry to announce that I've decided to end this game/blog. I've been giving this a lot of thought over the past several months and eventually came to the decision to bring this to an end with mystery photo #500. There are many reasons why I made this decision, but the main one is simply that my interests have changed. I'm no longer "into" the game or even Disneyland, for that matter. After letting my annual pass lapse for several months last year, I finally renewed it in November. And, I haven't been back a single time since then, and to be honest, I really have no desire to. I have other interests and projects that keep me busy these days, and have little time free for anything else.

So, mystery photo #500 will be the last one I will post here. I will keep this site and all of the archives online, though, for anyone who wants to thumb through the last four years' worth of game photos and answers. The domain name (web site address) is good until January 2011. Once it expires, this site will still be accessible by using: http://disneylandmysteryphoto.blogspot.com

What is this?

Answer:
This is one of the 75 Mickey Mouse statues from Disney's "75 Inspearations Tour". On November 18, 2003, to mark the 75th anniversary of Mickey Mouse's appearance in the first synchronized sound cartoon, "Steamboat Willie," Disney World unveiled 75 700-pound, six foot tall statues of Mickey. Each one was designed by someone different, from celebrities to animators to employees of Disney or its affiliates. After spending some time on display at Disney World, the statues began touring the country, visiting various cities. On January 10, 2005 they were put on display at California Adventure, where they remained until February 22, 2005. After being displayed at California Adventure, they were taken to Washington D.C. for a while, then sent to New York where they were auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charity. This particular statue is called Mickey Celebrates Our Freedom, and was designed by Paul Wenzel. Photos of all 75 statues can be seen on my web site in this gallery.

-- Yes, that is where this statue was located.

John and Heather
This is one of the 75 Mickey Statues that were decorated by different people and auctioned off to raise money for different charities. They decorated Disneyland, Ca. Adventure and Downtown Disney as part of the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland.
-- That's mostly correct, but this was in honor of the 75th anniversary of Mickey's first appearance in a sound cartoon, not Disneyland's 50th anniversary (though the statues in California were on display in the same year). Also, the statues were only on display inside California Adventure.

What is this?

Answer:
This was Disneyland's float in the 2004 Rose Parade, in celebration of the new, soon-to-be-opened Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride at California Adventure. After the parade, the float was towed to California Adventure where it was put on display for about a week.

A float from the Tournament of Roses parade later displayed at California Adventure.

That's the Rose Parade Float from Jan 1 2004. The tallest float the parade ever had (at the time. I don't know if any have surpassed it). It commemorated the opening of DCA's Tower of Terror in the spring of 2004.
-- I'd forgotten that it was also the tallest Rose Parade float! Thanks for reminding me. I did a little searching via Google, and I believe that record still stands.
