What is this?

Answer:
This is the Monorail station in Downtown Disney. On very busy days, head south from the tram through Downtown Disney to here instead of going to the Disneyland park entrance. The lines are always short and it will whisk you right into Tomorrowland. This is my favorite way to enter the park, unless I'm planning to go to California Adventure first. The Monorail doesn't stop in California Adventure, but it does go through a small portion of it and the Grand Californian Hotel®.

The responses I received were:

Brian Martsolf
Disneyland Hotel Monorail station.
-- The Monorail used to stop at the Disneyland Hotel, but they had to reroute it when California Adventure was built, and it now stops next to the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney.

Jeff Toro
This is looking at the Downtown Disney entrance to the Monorail.

Shannon

Since the last one was so difficult, I'll give you an easy one this time. But, so it isn't too easy, you need to answer a few questions:

1) What character is this?
2) What show is she in?
3) Where would you go to see the show?

Answer:
She is the Magic Carpet from the "Disney's Aladdin -- A Musical Spectacular" show at the Hyperion Theater in California Adventure.

Several more photos from the show:

I have no clue about this picture, but to keep in the mood, I will make my guess as Jasmine, in the Hyperian Theatre inside DCA, and the show is the Aladdin Musical Adventure.... It's the only show I can think of right now... Never seen it though.
-- Very good guess for not having seen the show. You only missed one. Me, I'm embarrased to admit how many times I've seen it...

Ann Marie Fowler
1) I think Jasmine
2) Aladdin the show
3) Hyperion Theater at DCA.

TexasToest
1. The character is the Magic Carpet.
2. The show is Aladdin.
3. I don't know, other than California Adventure. I was driving, not navigating.

Where would you find this?

Answer:
This phone booth is near the Bonita Tower of the Disneyland Hotel.

I think this is the most difficult one I've used yet. In fact, if you had shown me this photo about a month ago, I wouldn't have known where it was!

Edited on 09/09/06 to add: There is another similar, but not quite the same, phone booth in Disney's California Adventure, in the back of the Hollywood Pictures Backlot, near the restrooms by the Hyperion Theater.

A few more pictures from the hotel:

I believe this is an English style phone booth ion the Hollywood Pictures Backlot at California Adventure.

Tim & Malinda
In the Hollywood section of California Adventure.
-- Interesting. You both picked the same area. And now that you mention it, I think there might be one back there, near the restrooms. I don't think it's full-sized and enclosed like this one, though. I'll have to check next time I'm there.

Answer:
This is one of four portraits on the back wall of the queue outside Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in Fantasyland at Disneyland.

The other three portraits and a closeup of a statue of Mr. Toad that is next to the queue inside the building:

Where would you find this?

Answer:
This sign is intended to be a helpful reminder of where you parked, on the fourth floor of the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure. At six stories tall (bottom to top, the floors are named: Chip & Dale, Daisy, Mickey, Goofy, Donald and Minnie) and about a quarter mile long, this is the second largest parking structure in the world (my source: a Cast Member working the tram about a year ago). The only parking structure bigger than this one is at the Tokyo Disney Resort. The structure there has one more parking space than this one.

The responses I received were:

Jeff Toro
Parking garage.

Shannon
I have no idea but I'm going to guess Toon Town and I can't wait to hear because he is my guy.
-- Wow! I stumped you with this? And right after you got the Columbia one? I'm shocked! You must never drive to Disneyland.

Ann Marie Fowler
The picture was taken in the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure.

The waiting area of the Bug's Life 4-d attraction.
-- Is it 4D? Disneyland calls it 3D, according to the park's map, but I'm not sure...

Shannon
Inside the waiting area for A Bug's Life.

Randall Alberts
This is from the It's Tough to be a Bug attraction at California Adventure. It is also in the Tree of Life at the Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
-- I didn't know there was more than one. Thanks for that info!

Brian Martsolf
This would be from the pre-show area for It's Tough to be a Bug in Disney's California Adventure.

What is this and why does it have a door?

Answer:
This is by the entrance to the queue for the Alice in Wonderland ride. This mushroom is one of a few old ticket booths still remaining in Disneyland, from the days when you needed a separate ticket for each ride.

The responses I received were:

Tim & Malinda
It's the control for the Alice in Wonderland ride.
-- That's the correct ride, but the controls aren't in the mushroom.

-- Believe it or not, that's one thing I haven't done yet. Maybe I should see if I can do that today.

What was this originally, and what is it used for now?

Answer:
This is an old PeopleMover car. It, and one other, are currently used as the sales counter in Tomorrowland's Little Green Men Store Command shop outside the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters ride.

You should have seen the smiles on the Cast Member's faces when I stepped back to take that picture. I guess not too many people recognize it for what it once was.

The responses I received were:

BBlast
That's an old PeopleMover. No idea what it is being used for now..

..make a hell of a desk though, wouldn't it?
-- That's pretty much exactly what it is now!

Brian Martsolf
Originally this was a PeopleMover car, now it is a checkout counter, presumably it's in the Star Trader gift shop.

Jeff Toro
This used to be the PeopleMover, I think, but do not know what's it's use now.

Richard Blythe
It was originally the PeopleMover ride (I miss it).
Now they are registers, ring me up!

Tim & Malinda
A ride vehicle from the PeopleMover and it is now in one of the gift shops.

Richard Blythe
That is the Rainforest Café, mmm yummy food.

Anybody else have a RF card? Free appetizers and front of the line pass.
-- I never heard of that card. How did you get it?

Brian Martsolf
W.A.G. Rainforest Cafe? I spent a good time at Disneyland last July but DON'T remember THIS building... Is it off in a corner of DTD?
-- It's toward the south end of Downtown Disney, between the Monorail station and ESPN Zone.

Why are these people standing around looking at a trash can?

Answer:
These people are talking to Push, an interactive trash can in Disneyland's Tomorrowland. Push, so named because the flaps on the trash can say "PUSH" (and this is the only trash can in Tomorrowland whose flaps have any text on them), is a remote controlled device that travels around Tomorrowland, talking to park guests.

If you'd like to know the secret of how Push works, scroll down past the "Responses received" section to the bottom of this page.

March 10, 2007 Update: I found out on a trip to the resort yesterday that there is another Push in California Adventure.

Click on the image to enlarge

The responses I received were:

Richard Schill
I hope it is the same thing that we have down here in Florida at Disney World -- the famous talking Trash can at Tomorrowland?

Kym
Because the trash can isn't sitting on the ground fully. If you look at the legs of the trash can, they are suspended in the air.
-- It looks that way because it's on wheels. It would be nice if they could make that less noticeable though, huh?

Shannon
That is Push in Tomorrowland.

BBlast
Looks to me, of the two trash cans, one is sitting above the ground a bit. So my guess is that either there is a VERY little person in there moving around..or it is a radio controlled "character".

"Mommy, can we go see Timmy the Trashcan again?"
-- Very good guess! Well, except for the trash can's name...

Susan Kozicki
It is a talking trash can.

Bruce Sherman
Same reason they do it at WDW, 'cause it walks and talks. :) Just like in the mystery photo I did for WDW. :)

BTW, I believe its name is Push. :)
-- Now you tell me! I must have missed your mystery photo about Push. I don't remember seeing it...
